Technology and Real Estate…Oh the times they are a-changin…

As Bob Dylan said…the times they are a-changin…correction…Make that Changed!

iStock_000021690597XSmallIn thinking about the ways in which we are adapting and changing how we conduct business, new and improved technology has allowed us to be more flexible, mobile, and to collaborate in ways which were not possible in the past. Wireless, smartphones, laptops, tablets, cloud storage and a plethora of apps such as Dropbox, Google Apps, Google Hangouts, Evernote, Docusign, Authentisign (and the list goes on and on), allow us to be able to assist clients buying and selling real estate from just about anywhere. No doubt technology has had a profound impact on the way in which we work, but remember, this is a business about relationships, and no technology can replace the value of building,  maintaining relationships and having those face to face communications.

Social networking platforms have given us a way to have on-line conversations and sharing opportunities with our sphere of influence and potential clients on a daily basis. As social media has matured and turned out to be  just another tool in the tool box and not a magic bullet, we have a better understanding of the most effective ways to use these platforms.

The rise of the connected consumer has created a shift in our thinking and actions as marketers. What we know is people do not want to be blasted with our marketing messages, if they are in our sphere, they want to talk to us and get to know us as people. If we send spam, people can choose to hide, block, un-friend, un-follow us right out of their social media lives,  The empowered consumer also expects to receive excellence in service, and if they don’t feel the level of service meets their expectations,  they are quick to share how they feel on any number of on-line sites through blogs, commenting, sharing on Twitter, Facebook and yes even on review and recommendation sites such as Yelp, Angie’s list and the countless other that crop up daily.

In 2010 we offered a two day, class called Design Your Digital Plan which was meant to give a 30,000 foot view of developing a plan for your on-line presence. Some of you found the “fire hose” of information overwhelming and some of you took that information and ran with it. For those of you just getting started, or perhaps need a refresher, we thought while you are working on your 2014 business/marketing plans might be a good time to revisit some of the topics from DYDP. We will break out various topics pertaining to technology and social networking to help you decide which of the “New School” tools you want to add to your 2014 business/marketing plans. To that end, we have a series of classes we are calling “Technically Speaking” which will begin January 28th, 2014. We have invited a few of your colleagues to join the discussion and share with you how they are successfully incorporating new tools and technology into their business plans and modernizing their marketing.

We hope you will be able to join us for any or all of these classes. The sessions are open to all CB Bain | Seal Brokers and Staff or by special invitation. We are also going to experiment with Google Hangouts to broadcast some of the presentations/discussions to our outlying offices.

1/28/14 Linda Aaron: “If I Google You What Will I Find”
This presentation was given in October 2013 at Coldwell Banker Generation Blue and is the basis for creating a solid on-line presence through your profiles. We will cover where you should have a profile, what you need to include in your profiles how to maximize your profiles for search and to help people find you on-line.

1/30/14 Thursday Forum topic: “Inbound Marketing” 9:oo AM-10:30 AM
We have a special Thursday Forum planned with Rob Wachter, CB Bain | Seal, Inbound Marketing Manager to share with you what we are doing as a company to generate more business for our brokers and to give you an overview of what inbound marketing is and how you can adapt it for your business.

1/30/14 3 Clock Class: “Blogging for Real Estate” 1-4 PM
Linda Aaron, Chavi Hohm and Kim Colaprete from Team Diva will be giving you the basics of blogging from content planning and creation to adding widgets/plugins and how to make a post and share your message to increase traffic to your website/blog.

Please visit our CB Bain Seal Eventbrite channel for the additional Technically Speaking workshops and register today!
